Merry Christmas and Happy Solstice

Happy Yule and Merry Christmas! For Solstice we went to the local UU church for a celebration and ritual. I wasn't too sure what to expect to be honest. During the ritual they provided childcare, so the kidlins were off happily making wands and decorating Yule logs. The ritual was interesting and not entirely what I expected. Honestly it took a little bit for me to get into it - old teachings die hard, even once you turn away from them. It was nice and full of energy. One of the readings done was more Wiccan inspired which didn't do a lot for me as that's not a path that interests me, but overall it was good. People were just exceptionally nice. Afterwards was a potluck dinner (yummy) and just a general gathering of people.

On Wednesday an old and dear friend of my husbands came over for a visit. They hadn't seen each other in 7 years, and as we've moved back to the area, there was a lot of catching up to do. My mate knew that his friend wasn't Christian, but imagine his surprise to see they follow some of the same path. His friend was most pleasantly surprised as well.

Mom arrived without incident on Thursday. It's been a bit of a trick, with the mention of a "celebration at the church" and avoiding what the actual celebration was or exactly what church it was held at! But it is all good. I did have to delay my initiation ceremony for about a week. Such is life, though I have unofficially begin part of my training as it is. By next week I will have completed the ritual. I have also begun narrowing down the dieties I wish to follow. The problem is that with both a strong Scottish heritage as well as European/Germanic, I'm a bit at cross odds on a few things. I'm slowly working it out. I do know that some of the Norse gods are in.

It's been an insane and long week, and we're spending tonight getting things unboxed and so on while the kids are with my mother. Then it's to bed for a well deserved rest!

From the wind in the trees,
Siofra
